YOUNG people, who care for loved ones, have been treated to a night at the Alhambra theatre, Bradford, to see the pantomime Snow White, thanks to Richard Wilson and Neil Senior, who run the Cake'ole cafe in Craven Court, Skipton.

The 14 youngsters, all members of Skipton Young Carers Group, also got a back stage meeting with the stars of the show, comedian Billy Pearce and X Factor winner, Joe McElderry.

The group set off to Bradford armed with giant chocolate Santas, sweets and drinks, thanks to contributions from staff and customers of the cafe.

"We've decided to adopt the young carers group as our charity for the year and will be planning other events for them," said Richard.

"The group already meets at the cafe every month. The youngsters who care for siblings and parents are an inspiration and we admire the volunteers who run the group."

Sonia Knight, the volunteer who organises the SYCG sessions, said: "It was a brilliant trip and we would like to thank Cake'ole and their customers who donated sweets and treats, especially Robert and Tina Turnbull.

"They provided chocolate Santas for every young carer in the group but also co-ordinated a donation of presents from Habasit Rossi in Silsden."

SYCG is run by volunteers who work with young carers aged seven years upwards who help look after family members suffering disability or chronic illness and siblings with behaviour problems.

The organisation is supported by North Yorkshire County Council youth service and, this year, it aims to set up small group sessions targeting youngsters who are struggling in their caring roles.

SYCG holds monthly activity sessions and a monthly teen meeting at Cake'ole cafe.
