Ben Rhydding 0 Leeds Gryphons1

BEN Rhydding played outstanding hockey throughout this game and were devastated not to even get a point out of it.

The back four played beautiful inter-changing hockey, connecting with Robert Ramsden and Neil Sugden seamlessly to which Leeds had no answer despite repeatedly trying to trap these two exceptional players.

Rhydding forced the Leeds keeper to make some incredible saves – one in particular to deny Andrew Lorimer’s scorching reverse which would have given the boys in maroon a well-deserved lead.

Ben Rhydding continued to threaten and had most of the possession in this phase. It was while Robert Ramsden was off the field that Rhydding leaked in the middle and conceded a naïve corner at a critical moment.

Confusion followed when Rhydding broke early and the umpire allowed play to continue. This led to disarray for both teams and the ball fell to a Leeds player near the post who slotted it home.

This was a gift for Leeds going into the half time break and a cruel blow for Rhydding who had clearly been the better side to this point and had almost twice the number of circle entries.

Rhydding continued to have lengthy passages of flawless possession in the second half and created many chances, but lack of conviction in front of goal left them scoreless.

They now have a huge bottom of the table clash on Saturday at home to University of Durham 2nds (3pm).
