A YOUNG Barnoldswick councillor has been shortlisted for an award.

Cllr Lyle Davy, who recently celebrated his 19th birthday, is one of six people to be shortlisted for the LGIU Young Councillor of the Year award, which recognises a councillor who was 30 or under when last elected and has contributed significantly to their community.

"I'm delighted to have been shortlisted for Young Councillor of the Year," said Cllr Davy, who represents Barnoldswick's Coates ward. "There were over 200 nominations so to be shortlisted into the last six is a great achievement.

"Pendle Council has previously had young councillors shortlisted for Young Councillor of the Year, and I'm hoping to go one better and bring the accolade back to Barlick.

"I've enjoyed my first year in office and it has been a very steep learning curve for me. As well as dealing with people's individual concerns, I was on the bid team and am now on the working group for the Tour of Britain Cycle race, which we are hoping to bring right through Barnoldswick."

Cllr Davy is vice chairman of Pendle Council's Accounts and Audit Committee and has visited youngsters involved with Pendle Pupil Parliament, speaking to them about the effects of social media and young people in politics.

Winners will be revealed at an annual awards ceremony on March 2.
