REVISED plans for a new business park on a large site in Skipton will go on display at a public exhibition in the town on Monday.

The new plans no longer include a Sainsbury’s foodstore, family pub/restaurant or hotel. It is now proposed that some residential development will fund the business site known as Wyvern Park.

The plans for the 44-acre site between Waltonwrays Cemetery and Sandylands Sports Centre include about 250,000 sq ft of new industrial and commercial space and around 225 new homes.

The development would be accessed via a new link road from Carleton Road to the A629 Western bypass.

The developers say this could significantly reduce the number of lorries passing through Skipton town centre and the investment in the road infrastructure could also benefit existing businesses on Engine Shed Lane.

Ben Ward, director of Henry Boot Developments Limited which is hoping to develop the site, said: “New commercial space is desperately needed in Craven to allow existing local businesses to grow and to attract new companies to locate here. Wyvern Park can provide a step-change in provision of commercial space for the district, in a convenient location with a direct link to the bypass.”

He added: “Following the previous planning application, we have redesigned our proposals to take account of community and council feedback. Wyvern Park could create around 800 new jobs providing a boost to the local economy. A foodstore, hotel and restaurant are no longer part of the plans.”

Improvements to the proposals include additional landscaping, new public footpaths and an area of green open space for community use. This additional landscaping and open space will help to protect the views from the neighbouring Waltonwrays Cemetery and Crematorium.

The exhibition will be held at Herriots Hotel on Broughton Road between 2pm to 7pm and visitors will be able to view the plans, speak to representatives of the project team and give their feedback.
