TWO Craven libraries will host drop-in support sessions aimed at helping people whose lives are affected by dementia.

The sessions are part of North Yorkshire County Council’s dementia support service and are the result of a partnership between the county council and local dementia support workers from a specialist voluntary organisation called Making Space.

“These support sessions are run on a drop-in basis and are for people affected by dementia and their carers,” said County Councillor Clare Wood, executive member for adult social care and health integration. “The library is a safe, comfortable and accessible place for them to meet support workers and get advice about their concerns and the challenges they face.

"It’s also an opportunity to make new friends over a cup of tea or coffee.

“Improving dementia services is a key priority for the county council because we have an ageing population and over 9,000 of our residents are living with dementia. Our aim is to improve their quality of life and support their carers. These drop-in sessions play an important part in doing that and we will be opening more across the county over the coming year.”

Local sessions will be held at Ingleton Library on the first Tuesday of the month from 10am to noon and the new Settle Library, at Limestone View, on the first Tuesday of the month from 10am to 11.30am.
