THE Skipton & Ripon Constituency Labour Party held a fundraising dinner at the Soroptomists Rooms on Otley Street on Friday night.

The guest of honour was Geoffrey Robinson MP for Coventry North West and a former Paymaster General. He spoke afterwards to the assembled members and their friends about his time in Parliament and recounted stories going back to the days of Harold Wilson, noting that "he was a clever politician".

He told guests that the local candidate at the general election, Malcolm Birks, would make an excellent MP, saying afterwards: "Malcolm is a bright, young, local man with his heart in the right place and is exactly what this constituency needs".

The local Labour Party are also planning to hold a public event at Glusburn Institute on 10th April at 7.30pm with former Unison leader Rodney Bickerstaffe and columnist and author Paul Routledge, as they build up their campaign to elect the first ever Labour MP for Skipton & Ripon.
