A COFFEE morning organised by a group of South Craven School pupils to help a two-year-old girl with cancer raised nearly £1,000.

Luke Dyson, 12, from Silsden, teamed up with his friends Charlotte Fryatt, also from Silsden and Ellie Eastwood, from Sutton, to arrange the coffee morning in aid of Ruby Young.

Ruby is the granddaughter of a close friend of Luke's family.

She lives in Kent and was diagnosed with neuroblastoma last summer. Her family want to collect enough money to send her to America for potentially life-saving medical treatment.

The coffee morning and raffle was held at Silsden's St James' Church last month. (February)

Luke's mum, Anna Dyson, said: "We had lots of people turn up and raised £970.30 during the morning which exceeded all our expectations.

"We sold a lot of cakes and coffees but also received very generous donations from individuals, including £165 collected by the drivers at Steeton and Silsden taxis and £100 from a sponsored walk from Silsden.net

"Keighley's Sainsbury's Supermarket contributed tea and coffee and added to the 72 raffle prizes we'd collected from family, friends and neighbours.

"We've since increased the fundraising total to £1,250 following other donations, including £85 from Clitheroe Rotary Club.

"The kids worked so hard on the day. They are quite rightly very pleased with this fantastic achievement."
