A BUSINESS providing ultrafast broadband has unveiled plans to instal a fibre broadband network in the villages of Cononley and Carleton.

Gigaclear says this provision will benefit residents and businesses who are currently stymied by unreliable and slow broadband speeds.

It adds that its new network will enable every property connected to access consistent and reliable Internet speeds.

Councillor Carl Les, chairman of the Superfast North Yorkshire Advisory Board, said: “We welcome the investment Gigaclear is proposing to make in North Yorkshire. This investment will help residents and businesses in Cononley and Carleton take advantage of the transformational benefits high speed broadband brings to our communities.”

Anthony Wilkinson, a Cononley resident and local better broadband champion, said: "For several years we've tried to get an improved service from other providers, and now it seems we will end up with the best broadband in the country.

"This will transform my ability to work from home, meaning reduced commuting and more time spent locally enjoying our fabulous rural environment.”

Matthew Hare, chief executive at Gigaclear, said: “The passion and enthusiasm of the community and its champions has drawn us to Cononley and Carleton.

"We are proud to add North Yorkshire to the counties which will have access to the fastest broadband in the country.

"Our ultrafast download and upload speeds, coupled with a dedicated fibre connection to every home and business will transform the online experience for these residents and businesses."

The work to install the new network is expected to begin around June and July.
