AN application to build nine houses on a former allotments site behind a Barnoldswick pub has been submitted to Pendle Council.

Mr Rawstron is seeking planning permission to build nine three-bedroom homes behind the Greyhound pub, off Manchester Road.

The site is partly a former allotments plot and partly the former car park to the Greyhound and as such is classified as brownfield land.

According to the plans filed by Barnoldswick-based agent ADM Design, the proposed houses will be built "with traditional materials that are sympathetic and reflect the character of the area".

The plans also state the proposed home "will have no adverse impact on the adjacent properties and will maintain more than adequate amenity space for both the new and existing dwellings".

Planning permission for four detached dwellings was granted in September 2014, but the plans state the applicant is now considering an alternative scheme for nine townhouses because the "smaller house type would be be more affordable and appeal to a wider market".
