THE monsoon-like weather devastated the Sectional League Cup fixture list last night with only five of the 14 scheduled matches going ahead.

West Region bosses will be hoping for a let-up in the torrential downpours for a number of Sectional deciders to take place on Monday night ahead of the quarter-final ties due to be played next midweek.

One of the handful of contests to pass muster was at Dunterlie where Arthurlie sealed their last eight place through a 3-0 win over St Anthony's.

Joe Andrew ran onto Craig Malcolm's clever lay-off and crashed an unstoppable drive high into the net after 35 minutes to send the home side in at the interval 1-0 ahead.

A second goal arrived heading into the closing stages of the game as Frank McKeown despatched a daisycutter of a free-kick beyond Davie Turner, who was picking the ball out of his net again before the final whistle after being left helpless by a stunning Malcom strike.

Losing co-gaffer James McKenna said: "There were spells when we had the Arthurlie players rattled, but unfortunately we never turned our time on top into goals whereas they did."

In the remaining Section 5 affair, Chris Cruikshanks and Brian Mackay scores in the last five minutes saw Pollok rack up a less than convincing 2-0 victory over Benburb.

Across the city, Section 3 top dogs Petershill had Steven McLung, Stevie Dallas and Michael Keenan on target in a 3-0 defeat of St Roch's that rendered Bellshill Athletic's 3-1 local derby triumph over Thorniewood United as meaningless.

And Renfrew rubber-stamped their qualification after Graham Mort (2), Clinton Maxwell and Chris Faulds netted in a resounding 4-1 beating of Greenock.

The quarter-finals are now taking shape as Arthurlie v Kilsyth Rangers, Shotts Bon Accord v Petershill, Lanark Utd v Renfrew, Ashfield or Yoker or Clydebank v Cambuslang Rangers or Rutherglen Glencairn.

Meanwhile, there were a couple of major shocks in the Ardagh Glass Cup, most notably Lugar Boswell's 1-0 defeat of Glenafton that saw the Jaggy Bunnets secure the second qualifying place behind Section 4 table-toppers Auchinleck Talbot.

And strongly-fancied Kilbirnie Ladeside also tumbled out on the back of a 3-0 home upset against Winton Rovers allied to rivals Largs Thistle defeating Dalry Thistle by a 4-2 scoreline.

James Marks, Alan Barnes, Paul Mullin and Willie McLure were the men who counted for the Seasiders, whose reward is a last eight encounter away to Hurlford United.

The other Ardagh Cup quarter-final ties are Auchinleck v Maybole, Beith v Irvine Meadow and Girvan v Lugar Boswell. Last night's results
