A VOLUNTARY committee is celebrating 65 years' fundraising for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

During that time, the Keighley and Craven group has raised more than £400,430 for the charity.

Activities have ranged from coffee mornings and fashion shows to musical evenings and balls.

Committee chairman Mary Parker said: "Yorkshire Cancer Research – which is funded entirely by donors – has supported vital projects across the county for 90 years.

"It is committed to reducing the devastating impact of cancer on the lives of people living in and around Yorkshire."

In addition to their usual fundraising activities, Keighley and Craven members are marking their anniversary with two special events, both at the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton.

Award-winning BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration will be guest speaker at a lunch on May 10, and a Star Sapphire and Suits Ball will take place on November 21.

"These events need a lot of arrangement and investment so we are looking for support in the form of raffle or auction prizes," said Mrs Parker.

"Or perhaps people would like to join us in our celebrations by purchasing tickets for either or both events."
