DEDICATED nurse Jean Ross has been awarded a top accolade for her work.

The 62-year-old, of Silsden, was awarded The British Journal of Nursing's Stoma Care Nurse of the Year title.

She was nominated by patients and her nursing colleagues in Stoma Care after 45 years in the caring profession.

In 1990 she set up the stoma care service at Airedale Hospital and since then has represented stoma care nursing all over the world at numerous international and national conferences presenting nursing papers.

She retired from Airedale Trust in 2009 but went on to work part-time in the community for the trust.

Before retiring, she led and taught at the Bradford University stoma course and has helped set up a stoma care nursing course in conjunction with Leicester University and Salts Health Care Ltd in Birmingham.
