A BUS company has come to the rescue of a Craven couple whose wedding was nearly ruined by the Tour de Yorkshire.

Chris Beck and Georgie Brewster had booked the church in Embsay and their reception in Ilkley a year before the three-day event was announced.

The pair were shocked when race organisers said many roads around Ilkley would be closed to public traffic on Sunday, effectively trapping their guests at the ceremony.

However, after speaking to Mike Powell at Bradford City Council, they were referred to Colin Booth, general manager at Keighley Bus Station, who has offered to take guests from the church to the reception on two Transdev buses.

“It’s been like Transdev riding to the rescue with a cape on and saving the day,” said Chris.

“We’d spent about £6,000 and then a couple of months back they (the race organisers) announced the Tour route was coming right past where we wanted to be.

“We’d booked the venue, booked the dress, the hotel and spent a shed load of money on it.”

However, Chris has now had assurances from the Tour de Yorkshire team that their guests will be able to arrive at the reception using public transport with special dispensation for the pair to ride in their wedding car.

“Colin’s come up trumps. He and Mike have been fantastic. I can’t thank them enough,” he continued.

Mr Booth said Transdev was delighted to pitch in and help Chris and Georgie on their big day.

“It was brought to our attention by Mike Powell that a couple’s wedding plans were in tatters due to the closure of roads in and around Embsay, and their guests would be unable to get from the church to Ilkley for the reception,” he said.

“I rang Chris and offered our services at a vastly reduced cost, only covering the cost of the drivers.

“Our intention is to decorate the buses in ribbons for the big day.”
