LIGHTS, Camera, Action! Villagers are set to stage another Cononley Scarecrow Festival this Bank Holiday weekend.

"Each year, the villagers of Cononley continue to surprise us with their inventiveness and the tremendous effort they all make to stage the Scarecrow Festival," said Councillor Lois Brown, chairman of the Cononley Parish Council. "That’s what makes it successful."

Once again a broad theme has been chosen for the festival. This year it is Lights, Camera, Action!, allowing villagers to explore the world of film with their scarecrows.

Cllr Brown said: "Last year’s Cononley Scarecrow Festival was the best so far and certainly gave a boost to the growing funds for the continuing refurbishment of the Cononley Village Institute.

"Since the big refurbishment took place to make the institute more user friendly, there has been a surge in bookings and the building has be used to its full advantage."

There are now plans are in place to improve the porch and entrance from the main hall onto Main Street and install a sound system to provide better facilities for parties, productions and concerts.

From Saturday to Monday, visitors can follow the scarecrow trail around the village to find more than 60 scarecrows.

A special mini scarecrow quiz trail can be found along the way.

Refreshments will be provided on Sunday afternoon and throughout the day on Bank Holiday Monday.

On Monday, there will be various activities taking place in the institute and two duck races will be held in the afternoon.

There will be a £25 prize for the best scarecrow as well as two runner-up prizes of £15 and £10.

Everyone is welcome and scarecrow trail programmes will be on sale from Cononley Post Office, the New Inn and the Railway throughout the weekend and in the village institute on Sunday afternoon and Monday only.
