A 19 year old who moved his car to avoid it blocking a driveway in Skipton was over the drink-drive limit, heard magistrates.
Ben Parry, of Florida Road, Allerton, Bradford, was on a night out in the town on April 15 and had intended to get a taxi home, the court heard on Friday.
He was driving along Sackville Street just half a mile to the Tesco car park just after midnight when he was stopped by police.
A road side breath test was positive and he was taken to Harrogate Police Station where he was found to have 44 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - just over the limit of 35.
Parry, who had no previous convictions and who admitted drink-driving, was told by magistrates even though he was only just over, he would still be banned from driving for a year.
He was also fined £250 and ordered to pay £25 surcharge and £85 prosecution costs. He was also ordered to pay the recently introduced criminal courts charge of £150.
If he completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course by the end of November and costing a maximum of £250, his ban will be reduced by three months.
