THOUSANDS of amateur cyclists are currently cycling through South Craven ahead of the main Tour de Yorkshire race.

Six thousand sportive riders are taking part in the The Maserati Tour de Yorkshire Ride over the same roads as the third and final stage of the Tour de Yorkshire.

They started in Wakefield and will finish in Roundhay Park, Leeds, this afternoon, with the route taking in Sutton-in-Craven, Cross Hills, Kildwick, Silsden and Addingham.

Among those riding are brothers Neville Kildunne, 42, from Sutton, and his 42-year-old brother Neil, from Southampton.

Taking a refreshment break in Cross Hills, Neville said: "There has been really good support all the way."

Cross Hills businessman Craig Frankland, who runs GE Thorntons, said the Tour was good for the village.

"Hopefully there will be lots of people out when the main race comes through."

The main race is due to arrive in Sutton just before 3.15pm.
