THOUSANDS of people turned out to cheer on riders in the first-ever Tour de Yorkshire as it passed through South Craven.
And among the onlookers in Addingham was Prime Minister David Cameron who joined Kris Hopkins, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Keighley and Ilkley.
Mr Hopkins said: “I know he greatly enjoyed his time in the village and, in particular, the opportunities he had to meet with local people and share in the excitement of this brand new event.
“Great credit goes to the Addingham Civic Society, Addingham Parish Council and all the volunteers who helped make the many visitors to the village, including David Cameron, feel so welcome.”
The route also took in Sutton-in-Craven, Cross Hills, Kildwick and Silsden - and, in every community, hundreds of people lined the route.
Tourmaker Linda Scott, who was stationed in Sutton, said everyone was in good spirits.
She added: "The Tour de Yorkshire is absolutely wonderful. It promotes Yorkshire, it promotes cycling and brings Yorkshire people together."
