NEWCOMERS Scholes are the only team in the JCT600 Bradford League with a 100 per cent record after dodging the showers and defeating Idle by five wickets to record their third-successive Division Two win.

Once again they were the only side able to secure a victory on a rain-ravaged day thanks to their young left-arm spinner Danny Cross.

The former Hunslet Nelson player took 6-41 as Idle were restricted to 126-9 in 48 overs at Cavendish Road.

Skipper James Stansfield continued his good start to the season with 42 as Scholes eased to their target.

Scholes are now 24 points clear of second-placed Morley who saw their home match with Bankfoot abandoned after just two overs without a run being scored.

Although play was possible in all the four remaining matches all of them ended up being abandoned due to rain.

Jonny Reynolds made 74 out of Baildon’s 148-4 against Brighouse before the weather closed in, while Bowling Old Lane had made a brisk start against Spen Victoria before the rain came. Tahir Khan made 58 of their 120-3.

The experienced Damon Gormley (47) and Jake Wray (37) were the main contributors to Yeadon’s 129-5 off 33 overs at Gomersal where Joel Pollard took 3-46.

Hartshead Moor would have been fancying their chances of pushing for victory when they dismissed Windhill for 147, but the rain prevented them from starting their reply.

Daniel Squire (3-45) and Andy Parratt (3-37) were the chief wicket takers while Ahsan Tanveer (45) and Sajjad Khan (33) were Windhill’s top scorers.
