SETTLE Primary School has won the North Craven Primary Football Shield for the sixth year running.

Teams from Settle, Ingleton, Austwick, Clapham, Horton, Long Preston, Rathmell and Giggleswick competed at Ingleton Primary School in front of an enthusiastic crowd of parents, grandparents and fellow pupils.

Settle College provided sports leaders to serve as score masters, linesmen and referees.

The school was undefeated in its six games and excelled in defence. beating the Horton, Austwick and Clapham confederation of schools 1-0 in a closely-fought final.

Daisy Saffrey, from Hellifield Primary, was nominated as best girl player and Elliot Marklew as best boy player.

Medals were awarded to the best two teams and participation certificates given to all the boys and girls who took part.

Richard Wright, headteacher of Settle Primary School, said: "We are delighted to win this shield and I am proud of the attitude, sportsmanship and teamwork of all our players. There were some amazing teams and it was great to see so many girl players being represented. The calibre of football played at the tournament was exceptionally high."
