MEMBERS of the congregations at Bolton Priory and St Mary's, Embsay, took part in a pilgrimage from Embsay to Bolton Abbey on Sunday.

It followed the route of the monks who decided to move from Embsay in the 12th century in order to find better land nearer the River Wharfe.

After a welcome cup of tea, the two congregations moved to the Priory Church for a Songs of Praise service.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, which gave us all a strong sense of the historic link between our two parishes," said Bolton Abbey rector, the Rev Simon Cowling, who planned the pilgrimage with the vicar of Embsay, the Rev Louise Taylor-Kenyon.
