SIXTY residents of Burton-in-Lonsdale attended a public meeting, called by the community first responders, to learn about the new automated external defibrillator (AED) which has been installed on the outside wall of the village hall.
Chrissy Blakeley, a Yorkshire Ambulance Service trainer, demonstrated how the machine worked and explained how the scheme would operate.
A lively question and answer session took place in which Chrissy answered residents' questions.
The life-saving device will be used by members of the public and will supplement the work of Burton-in-Lonsdale Community First Responders.
The machine was bought using grants from Craven District Council (£700) and Burton-in-Lonsdale Parish Council (£300) and funds donated by the Domino Drive Club and the Ladies Friendship Group.
John Wood, co-ordinator of Burton-in-Lonsdale First Responders, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of the parish council, in particular Ian Thompson and Sue Gregory, for their support and help in obtaining the CDC grant, and, of course, to everyone else who has contributed with practical help and fundraising.
"We still need people who are prepared to act as community first responders and possibly this meeting will have made some people consider the importance of this life-saving service and join us."
