THOUSANDS of visitors turned out for the Malham Safari Trail over the Spring Bank Holiday week.

Featuring a Pennine Pantomime theme this year, visitors viewed the safari trail animals, many constructed by Roger Rand, and tried to find small placards in the shape of hiking boots, many of which were hand painted by local smithy Annabelle Bradley.

Other activities on offer included Morris dancing, belly dancing, a magic show by John Morman and archery and axe throwing provided by Life Outdoors.

"Our activities were amazing and very well received by spectators," said Malham Safari chairman Geoffrey Swales. "We would like to build on this and have already started discussing laying on more entertainment for next year's event.

"I would like thank the thousands of visitors who come to the safari year after year and help to make a great carnival atmosphere.

"I would also like to thank all the local residents and volunteers who work tirelessly both before and during the safari," he added. "Many of the volunteers do this while running farms, families and working full time."
