JACQUELINE Bell, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Skipton and Ripon in last month’s general election, has backed Tim Farron MP to become the party’s next leader.

Mr Farron, who is MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, has already received significant endorsements from the leaders of Scottish and Welsh Liberal Democrats, many of the party’s former MPs and fellow re-elected MPs Greg Mulholland (Leeds North West), John Pugh (Southport) and Mark Williams (Ceredigion).

Mrs Bell is one of over 110 of the party’s parliamentary candidates who stood at the general election and have announced their backing for Mr Farron.

The results of the leadership election will be announced on July 16.

Mr Farron said: “I am absolutely delighted to have Jacqueline Bell’s backing. Jacqueline was our excellent candidate for Skipton and Ripon at last month’s general election.

"I am determined to rebuild the party and get us back to our winning ways, that’s why I’m running for leader. Activists like Jacqueline have been at the heart of helping the party get its message out and I hope they will continue to play that incredibly valuable role.”
