A QUARTET of Ilkley Harriers' most-talented young runners competed for England in the Youth Cup mountain running event in Bulgaria, last weekend.

Over the 3.6km ladies course, Jemima Elgood was 23rd in 21min 26sec, Lucy Haines 37th in 22:44 and Sarah Pickering 38th in 23:19.

Elgood and Haines were part of the England team which finished ninth overall. There were 50 competitors in the race and the winning time was 18:50.

In the 5.4km men's, race Ruaridh Mon Williams finished in 56th place in 30:44. There were 61 runners in the race and the winning time was 24:30.

Ilkley-based Georgia Malir, who now runs for City of Leeds, will defend her junior women's title at the European Mountain Running Championships in Madeira, Portugal this weekend.
