KATY Green, a former student of Skipton Girls’ High School, has won a prestigious award in the RSA Student Design Awards .

Katy, who is soon to graduate from Northumbria University, Newcastle, with a BA honours degree in Design for Industry,

was recognised for her Babybiome entry.

Babybiome is both a special blanket, designed to re-engineer the benefits of natural birth for Caesarean-born babies, and a campaign, designed to help people better understand how to nurture a healthy human microbiome - the community of micro-organisms that share our body space.

First introduced in 1924, the awards challenge emerging artists, designers, thinkers and makers to use design thinking, craft and ingenuity to drive innovation and past winners include Sir Jonathan Ive, chief design officer at Apple and Richard Clarke, global design vice president at Nike.

Katy, who is from Embsay, will now complete a paid internship at the Eden Project and her work will feature in its Human Microbiome exhibition this summer.

It is also showcased on the RSA website.
