A TOTAL of more than £150,000 has been spent in a year by the Skipton Town Partnership on promoting the town.

The organisation, formerly known as Skipton Business Improvement District, takes a levy from local businesses to help pay for activities designed to improve the trading environment.

It has just released a report which outlines how it spent around £153,000 as contributions to key projects in the town in the year financial year to the end of March.

These included the annual Waterways and Yuletide Festivals, the Christmas lights, floral displays.

Cash was also spent on the town centre ambassadors and the Business Crime Reduction Partnership.

Chairman and local businessman Andrew Mear said: "The joint contribution businesses make through the BID levy is so important to the future of our town.

"I have no doubt that it has brought us a better and stronger Skipton and will continue to do so in the future. Skipton is a special place - by working together we can make sure it stays that way."
