PENDLE MP Andrew Stephenson has urged the leaders of other local towns to follow in the footsteps of Barnoldswick and shout about their achievements.

Last year, the West Craven town, which hosts a series of community festivals, was successful in the Great British High Street competition.

Now the competition is running again in 2015 and Mr Stephenson is eager for other Pendle communities to receive the plaudits.

He said: "I was incredibly proud of Barnoldswick’s win in this competition last year, both as the MP and a resident of Pendle.

"As part of my role I visit many of the local shops and high streets across Pendle and I’ve seen first-hand how good they really are.

"I firmly believe that Pendle has the potential to win the competition again this year and I would encourage other towns to enter."

Nominations are being accepted from town teams, business improvement districts or traders' associations, with a £50,000 cash prize and mentoring opportunities for winners.

The deadline for applications is July 17, with more details available from thegreatbritishhighstreet.co.uk/high-street-of-the-year-award
