PUPILS from Settle Primary School took the top honours in a young artists’ competition organised by the Rotary Club of Settle.

The competition, which was open to youngsters from all over Craven and attracted a large number of entries, saw all prizewinners coming from Settle Primary School.

Christian Rayner, Leann Knights and Kiera Allen all won vouchers for the Art Shop, Skipton, of £50, £25 and £10.

Class teacher Laura Thompson said: “This competition offered our pupils a wonderful opportunity to show their capabilities and I’m very pleased that the children did so well.”

Headteacher Richard Wright added it was another example of what the Rotary Club could do for the pupils.

"We have taken part in numerous events organised by Rotary in the past and look forward to joining with them in the future," he said.

The judges, all artists, said standard was very high, making their job a difficult one.

In addition to the top three, they also praised the work of Robert Bradley, Pippa Charnley and Amelia Veevers.

Competition organiser, Settle Rotarian John Diggles, said: “We hope that the success of this competition will encourage more children to get involved in the arts.

"Rotary seeks to encourage youngsters to take part in many different ways. We are always looking for men and women who like to get involved in community projects like this, to come and see

what Rotary can do for them to further their involvement.
