COUGARS chairman Gary Fawcett has paid tribute to James Feather as he prepares to make his 250th appearance for the club.

The long-serving club captain should reach the landmark in Sunday’s trip to Coventry Bears and Fawcett has applauded the homegrown hooker.

He said: “It is very gratifying to know that our club captain will be making his 250th career appearance against Coventry Bears on Sunday.

“Buster has demonstrated, and continues to demonstrate, tremendous loyalty to the club over more than 10 years having exclusively played for the Cougars during his professional career as well as coming up through our junior ranks.

“My only wish is that, before Buster retires – he is already signed for next season – he gets the chance to lift up what he once called ‘a proper cup’ for the Cougars.”

Fawcett is eager that Cougars maintain their push for promotion with an improved display this weekend.

Paul March’s side bounced back from their defeat at North Wales Crusaders with a home win over Oxford last weekend.

Fawcett added: “After winning almost all before us our form dipped the previous Sunday against North Wales Crusaders and continued into the game against Oxford last Sunday.

“We didn't play at all well in the first half and improved only slightly in the second half.

“Oxford were dogged and determined and I think they will be ones to watch in two or three years’ time.

“They are a strong side and, I feel, will only get stronger.

“A drop in form is natural during the season and the critical thing is to ensure that we work through it regain the form we showed earlier this season.

“The goal is to finish top of the league and to have a 1 vs 2 final down at Cougar Park. We can only achieve this if we reach the standards we showed against the likes of Rochdale Hornets.”

Having signed Bradford duo Adam Brook and Samir Tahraoui on loan for the rest of the season, Fawcett revealed: “We are looking at other players but nothing has been conclusive as yet.”

Meanwhile, the Just Giving Danny Jones fund is approaching £225k not including gift aid.

Fawcett said: “This is excellent and it is important we keep the momentum going through the next few months.

“To this end our next fund raising event is on July 17 where will be holding a race night at Cougar Park in aid of the Danny Jones fund.

“A ticket for this event is £5 and includes a hot supper. Everyone is welcome for what should be a fun night for a fantastic cause.”
