A MOTORCYCLIST who kicked the door of a farmer's Land Rover in a 'moment of madness' has been ordered to pay £425 in fines and compensation.

Jarrett Lord, 24, was confronted by farmer Keith Marshall almost a year ago as he rode a motorcycle on his land at Niffany Farm, off Broughton Road in Skipton.

Mr Marshall was driving his Land Rover Defender at the time and towing a trailer full of sheep, Skipton Magistrates' Court heard.

Lord challenged Mr Marshall to a fight, and when he refused to get out of his vehicle, kicked the door three or four times, denting it.

A caution was originally offered, with the condition Lord pay the agreed sum of £250, but he failed to pay within the conditional six months, the court was told.

The court heard in mitigation it had been a 'moment of madness' for Lord, who claimed he had paid an initial amount up front to cover the damage.

Lord, of The Oval in Skipton, admitted criminal damage on August 30 last year and was fined £70. He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £20, and will also have to pay compensation of £250 to Mr Marshall.
