A CHALLENGE day raised a whacking £41,000 for Manorlands.

The seventh annual event at the Coniston Hotel estate, Coniston Cold, attracted four-strong teams from a range of companies.

Activities included off-road 4x4 driving, clay pigeon shooting, falconry, archery and target golf and the day culminated with a hog roast supper and drinks.

Overall winner was Keighley-based Brook Taverner.

There was also a raffle, quiz and auction.

Over the years the event has raised more than £260,000 for the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

Rachel Cunningham, head of fundraising at Manorlands, said: "The Coniston Challenge Day is an absolutely fantastic event and would not be possible without the support of the hotel, the estate's activity providers and the Keighley Manorlands Challenge Committee, which helps with the organisation.

"This year we have to raise an additional £200,000 to cover our running costs. We remain so grateful for the support given to our local services through this event."

Coniston Hotel director, Louise Bolton, said regular guests at the event had commented this year's was the best ever.

"The event is always a great opportunity to raise money for this worthy cause in a superb location, with fantastic facilities and a range of exciting activities," she added.
