A CROSS Hills school has raised £2,600 for Manorlands while becoming a world record breaker.

Pupils and staff at South Craven successfully gathered outside their school to break the Guinness Book record for the largest number of people in one place all wearing a bobble hat!

A South Craven spokesman said: "Preparations had begun weeks in advance to ensure as many students and staff as possible had a bobble hat for the day.

"Our deputy headteacher, Joanne Daly, procured 500 bobbles. At the end of break, students lined up on the hard courts and waited for the klaxon to sound, signalling the beginning of the count and a photograph by assistant premises manager, Dave Bonser, who was perched on top of a cherry picker.

"Another klaxon sounded after five minutes to indicate the end of the attempt.

"Three local clergymen and an auditor, Rosie Baker of Murray Harcourt Auditors, acted as adjudicators and verified the counting.

"The previous record was 764, and South Craven has smashed that by having 1,322 people in one place wearing a bobble hat.

"A total of £2,600 was raised for Manorlands."
