DO you know an amazing local social enterprise or a company that has excelled in digital innovation?

Those are the questions being asked by the organisers of the Craven Community Champion Awards.

Run by Craven District Council in association with the Craven Herald, the awards are divided into eight main categories, including Best Social Enterprise and Digital Innovation.

The former recognises an organisation that has made a significant contribution to community wellbeing by reinvesting its profits back into the community.

It could be a co-operative, mutual organisation, business, community interest company or a charity that has explicit social aims.

Judges are looking for a commitment to social or environmental cause and ethical values, accessibility to everyone in the community and improvements to the wellbeing of the community though reinvestment of profits.

The Best Social Enterprise Award is sponsored by Skipton-based Principle Healthcare International, one of Europe's leading producers of vitamins, minerals and supplements.

A spokesman said: “As a recent winner of the Queen's Award for Enterprise, our business was recognised for excellence in developing healthcare products, not just in the UK but around the world.

The Digital Innovation Award recognises those that have significantly enhanced community wellbeing through the use of information technology.

Nominees should have made a positive difference to, and improved the wellbeing, of a community though use of information technology and used this to bring people together from different backgrounds or to motivate and inspire others to participate in community activities.

Nomination forms are available on the council cravendc.gov.uk/communitychampions website or at any participating shop or service, library or doctor's surgery.

Winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at the Coniston Hotel and Country Estate at Coniston Cold on October 29.
