MORE than 40 members of the Yorkshire and Humber Association of Civic Societies (YHACS) gathered in Skipton for their regional quarterly meeting. They were taken on a guided tour of some of the older parts of the town by Skipton member Claire Nash.

In the afternoon they were officially welcomed to the town by Mayor Cllr Gordon Bell and then held their meeting in Christ Church Hall, with tea and homemade cakes provided by Skipton members.

Skipton Civic Society will begin its new season of speaker meetings on Wednesday, October 7, and subjects include Magna Carta, a History of Education and George Gilbert Scott’s 1862 Restoration of Ripon Cathedral. Details can be found at skiptoncivicsociety.org

The society will also be supporting Heritage Open Days, a national celebration of little-known places and buildings, which this year takes place from Thursday, September10, to Sunday, September 12.

In Skipton, there will be guided walks on various themes, including One Thousand Years of Skipton High Street, Canals, Mills and Green Spaces, Old Schools of Skipton and Skipton Railway History.
