A WOMAN who stole a bottle of smoothie and cream cakes from Skipton Marks and Spencer after falling back into drug use has been banned from nearly all the town's shops.
Jennifer Downing, 40, was seen by a Police Community Support Officer in the Simply Food store on August 11 and CCTV later confirmed her taking the goods without paying.
Police officers went to her address, where she admitted theft, the Skipton court was told.
Downing, of Pinhaw Road in Skipton, was already on a 12-month community order for similar matters, imposed in November last year.
In mitigation, Arshad Mahmood said Downing had successfully got her drug addiction under control, but she had relapsed after her partner had been taken into hospital.
He said she had taken some heroin before going into the store and stealing the smoothie and cakes.
After hearing Downing had been coping well with her community order, despite a short relapse, magistrates allowed it to continue.
They did, however, add a three-month order, banning her from all retail shops in Skipton, with the exception of Tescos and Lloyds Pharmacy. She will also have to pay £150 criminal courts charge, £85 prosecution costs and a £60 surcharge.
