POLICE who stopped a driver in Cross Hills found him in possession of drugs, magistrates heard.

Badar Mumir Yusuf, 23, was found to have a bag containing a small amount of cannabis, and individual wraps of white powder, which was later confirmed as cocaine.

The Skipton court heard Yusuf was stopped in Keighley Road in the early hours of May 25, and told police the drugs belonged to him and were for his own use.

In mitigation, Arshad Mahmood said Yusuf, who had no previous convictions, was not an habitual user of drugs and had bought the cocaine and cannabis in preparation for a night out.

"He is genuinely law-abiding and is extremely ashamed and upset about his actions," he added.

Yusuf, of Spencer Street in Keighley, admitted the possession of a class A and a class B drug. He was fined £180 and ordered to pay criminal courts costs of £180, prosecution costs of £85 and a surcharge of £20.
