A NEW model of care being developed across Airedale is to be spotlighted at a national event.

Airedale and Partners will showcase its innovative work, to improve the health of residents in care homes, at the Health and Care Innovation Expo 15 today.

Around 5,000 delegates from across the country are attending the event, at Manchester Central Convention Centre.

The partnership has input from more than a dozen organisations, ranging from health and social care services to care home providers and technology specialists.

It put together a successful bid to become one of the first 29 vanguard sites and won a share of a £200 million transformation fund.

Nurse consultant Rachel Binks, of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, will address delegates.

"Our partnership aims to help residents improve their health and wellbeing – particularly older, vulnerable people who are most at risk of getting sick, using technology to improve the care they receive," she said.

"In the future we are looking at delivering more specialist services into care homes, such as for mental health and physiotherapy.

"Our aim is to help residents remain active and independent and reduce hospital admissions, emergency department attendance and GP visits by providing a more personalised service, which is safer, more responsive and reduces duplication.

"We are delighted to be taking part in Expo15 as it gives us a great opportunity to showcase our innovative model of care, share our knowledge and learn from others about the care they are providing so that we can improve health and social care for future generations."
