BUDDING stars of Wimbledon have been served up a summer tennis treat in Skipton.

Tennis camps for children aged up to 16 to develop their skills have been running at Skipton Tennis Centre during the school holidays.

And more than 50 children a day have been seizing the chance to serve and volley at the Engine Shed Lane centre, meaning that around 1,200 daily places will have been taken up by the end of the summer, said coach Adam Cox.

He said: "The coaching team has been delighted to see the levels of enthusiasm, talent and hard work that the children have shown, and that the camps have proved to be so popular - we are very likely to be the busiest tennis camp in the country."

Adam said that the number of children involved would help to boost Skipton Tennis Centre's bid for "facility development" cash from the Lawn Tennis Association, which provides £5 million per year in grants across the country.
