PLANS to extend a parking ban on a vehicle-choked length of the Steeton housing estate have been welcomed by ward councillors.

Bradford Council has unveiled blueprints for the second phase of parking regulations in and around Thornhill Road.

The first phase last year included double yellow lines on the bottom part of Thornhill Road to stamp out inconsiderate parking, mostly by staff and visitors to nearby Airedale Hospital.

The second phase, nearer the main Skipton Road, is being funded by Redrow Homes, which is building 200 houses in Thornhill Road.

There will be double yellow lines around all the junctions between Skipton Road and Currer Walk, but parking will still be allowed in most of the western side of Thornhill Road.

District councillor Andrew Mallinson, who represents Craven ward, said: “I hope it will bring relief to residents, who have had to put up with inconsiderate parking at junctions and pavements.”

Steeton-with-Eastburn Parish Council chairman, Cllr David Mullen, welcomed the plans but has suggested amendments to highways engineers to extend the yellow lines.

He said: "My request is based on local knowledge, and an awareness of where it is dangerous to park.”
