A MAN who stole a cordless vacuum cleaner from Boyes stores in Skipton has been banned from the shop by magistrates.

Matthew Foreman, 35, stole and quickly sold the £79.99 Vax cleaner for £30 because he wanted money to buy alcohol, Skipton magistrates heard.

Foreman, who had just moved into the area from Lancaster, where he had a long history of offending, went into the Swadford Street store on July 27 and was picked up on CCTV cameras, the court heard on Friday.

He was identified, and officers went to his home in Broughton Road, but he had already sold the cleaner.

Foreman, who admitted theft, was given a 12-month community order, including a drugs rehabilitation requirement. He was also ordered to pay compensation of £79.99 to Boyes, a criminal courts charge of £150 and a surcharge of £60. No order was made for prosecution costs. He was excluded from Boyes Stores for a year.
