A SKIPTON veterinary student has been broadening his horizons.

Rob Hall has used a Harry Steele-Bodger Memorial Scholarship Travel Award to help fund a six-week intensive dairy course in the United States.

The scholarship is given by British Veterinary Association (BVA) to honour the memory of its president, Henry W Steele-Bodger, and his great services to the veterinary profession and agriculture.

Rob, who is embarking on his final year at Cambridge Veterinary School, received his award for his attendance at the Summer Dairy Institute at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

It exposed him to the latest thinking on many aspects of veterinary involvement with the dairy industry and offered him a different insight to his background of dairy farming in Craven.

Rob, 23, said: "Receiving the Harry Steele-Bodger Memorial Scholarship is an enormous honour.

"The grant has been invaluable in supporting my studies in the United States, from which I've learnt a huge amount. I hope that the experience gained overseas will continue to guide my career in dairy cattle medicine; using an evidence-based approach to help maximise animal welfare and productivity through sound management decisions."
