Aireborough 17 Goole 24
AIREBOROUGH knew that they would have to be at their best to contain a young Goole outfit who have won all their games to date.
The game started at a brisk pace and Goole had the best of the early exchanges giving them a 12-0 lead by the fifteenth minute.
Aire responded and fought their way back into the game and an excellent kick to the corner by Nick Holdsworth saw Kris Brooke beat the defence to score. Holdsworth added the conversion.
Aire stayed in the game until the half-hour mark was reached and then descended into two minutes of mayhem giving away two easy tries.
With a 24-7 deficit at half-time many teams would have capitulated but we saw in the second half the Aire that the players and coaches have been working for all summer.
Aire controlled the game for most of the second half, credit to Goole that their defence was excellent, a seventieth minute try by Jonny Mackey, converted by Holdsworth reduced the gap. Aire pressed in the last ten minutes and were rewarded with a Holdsworth penalty and a bonus point.
Much to be proud of in the second half and a sign that things are coming together – keep up the hard work and things will start to happen.
