CONSTRUCTION students at The Craven College are celebrating after winning the coveted Sir Thomas Kelly Cup and Plaisterers' Award.

The cup is awarded annually to those smaller colleges with students taking NVQ plastering courses and with the highest number reaching level three.

It also includes a cash prize of £1,250.

The Plaisterers’ Training Award, sponsored by British Gypsum, Formula, The Hadley Group and the Plaisterers’ Charity, recognises the highest standards of achievement in training and education in plastering.

College tutor Stephen Syers has been invited to Plaisterers' Hall in London next month to receive the award from the Lord Mayor of London, the Rt Hon, Alan Colin Draker Yarrow.

Mr Syers said: “We are over the moon with this award, our students have worked hard and this award proves to them that all the effort they have put in is worthwhile.

"It is noticed and it does make a difference when something is done to the best possible standard.”

College principal Robert Bellfield said he was delighted with the award.

“The team works hard with students to achieve high standards and this award confirms the high standards they are achieving with students for the benefits of the students and the construction industry.”
