SKIPTON is helping to lead the way in UK insolvency decline.

The town has came third on a list of falling insolvency rates, just behind Hamilton in Scotland and Washington in the North East.

Experian Consumer Services says the number of people declaring personal insolvency in Skipton has decreased from 11 in every 10,000 households between April and June 2014 to just three in every 10,000 households in the same period this year.

And it is a trend mirrored across the UK.

James Jones, head of consumer affairs at Experian, said: β€œIt’s encouraging see that the number of people facing personal insolvency has dropped in Skipton, which is a shining example for others affected to know that it is entirely possible to recover after a period of financial hardship.

"Becoming insolvent is not the end of the road, and with patience and the right guidance it is possible to regain control of your finances and rebuild a positive credit rating.”
