Hullensians 41 Yarnbury 7

WITH 13 senior players missing injured or unavailable Yarnbury still managed to put out five teams last Saturday.

Jack Butler returned at No 8 for the first team's trip to Humberside while in-form winger Ellis Gomersall found himself up against former Scotland winger John Steele who had once faced the All Blacks.

Butler was soon in thick of the in action to hold up his opposite number Kevin Bates over the line as Yarnbury repelled constant attacks from the home side.

Yarnbury had some promising runs out of defence with right wing Graham Maycock making good ground before Hullensians opened the scoring.

They carved an opening from a ruck with wing forward James Krebs putting hooker Andy Vernon in for the first try. Full back Guy Martinson's conversion made it 7-0.

Hullensians scored a second shortly after when winger Steele cut inside to wrong foot the defence for a try which Martinson again converted.

Yarnbury had chances to reduce the deficit when full back Kieran Davies pulled two penalty kicks wide.

They did open their count finally when second row Ian Maycock drove over the line from a tap penalty and Davies added the conversion.

Hullensians grabbed another try on the stroke of half time with a catch from second row Alex Cullen and drive for the line which was finished off by sub Ryan Barron.

The second half started badly for the Horsforth side with the home stand off Dom Bloomfield showing and going to slip wing forward James Krebs in for a try which Martinson converted.

Hullensians extended their lead further with another catch and drive try which Yarnbury could not stop from a line out and wing forward Krebs scored his second try.

Yarnbury took the game to the opposition in the final 20 minutes.Winger Gomersall tried to create space with a couple of weaving runs while second row Maycock was a fine example to a young pack in which hooker Harry Mincella, and flankers Tom Holden and Ethan Perkins showed up well.

Centre Joe Pinnock looked lively on the ball combining well with his partner centre Connor Moreton but they were well shepherded by the home defence.

To rub salt into the Yarnbury wounds, Hullensians second row Cullen took advantage of a loose ball in a ruck to scamper away unopposed down the left side for a try when Yarnbury scrum half Jarrod Huss looked to be impeded.
