MUSICIANS will join forces in Langcliffe to raise money for Syrian refugees.

They will stage a concert, Settle Sings for Syria, at Langcliffe Institute next Saturday, November 14, at 7pm.

One of the organisers Allan Evans, from Settle Music, said there were prompted to act because of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria and the daily news bulletins about the plight of the refugees fleeing from the warzone.

Mr Evans said: "We felt compelled to respond in some way and, therefore, we are organising a charity concert to raise funds that will be sent to a charity operating in this area.

"Although not strictly a Settle Music event, all of the groups and musicians are people we have met through our work with the shop and we can guarantee quite a variety of music – a 'miscellany' in the true sense of the word."

Among those taking part will be local band Jukebox Junkies and folk duo Rosie Clegg and Karin Grandal-Park.

There will also be baroque recorder ensemble, a classical pianist, classical singers, a flamenco and classical guitarist, guitarists from Settle Music's monthly guitar session (performing together and individually), a ukulele trio and a local author reading a story about refugees.

Concert-goers will also have the chance to take part in a Langcliffe-style singalong

Entry will be free, but there will be a retiring collection. To keep costs to a minimum, the organisers are encouraging everyone to bring their own refreshments.

Mr Evans added: "We are producing tickets for the event so we have an idea of how many people we will need to accommodate in the institute and people are get in touch 07880 783783 or email settlemusic@gmail.com."
