DR George Ingle will be guest speaker at Earby and District Local History Society on Tuesday.

He will give a talk, entitled Trouble at t’ Mill, in which he will speak about the riots which spread through local mills in 1826 when hand loom weavers protested against the introduction of power looms which they perceived would take their work.

Clashes with the militia, who were called out to defend the mills, led to several local men and boys being killed and several of the rioters were eventually arrested and sentenced to death.

The meeting will take place at New Road Community Centre, Earby, at 7.30pm and new members and visitors are welcome.
