A BAFTA-nominated film-maker who grew up in Austwick is offering the chance for Yorkshire folk to get directly involved with his next project.

Dan Hartley, whose debut feature Lad - A Yorkshire story, was highly praised by critics, is launching a 'Kickstarter' campaign to raise part of the budget needed to shoot his new film.

And those who pledge support for the movie will get a chance to have a say on how it is finally made.

Dan has much experience in the film industry, and worked as a video co-ordinator on films including the Harry Potter series, Clash of the Titans 2, The Bourne Ultimatum and recent hit Maleficent. His life as a filmmaker began with a series of short films that have toured international film festivals.

Dan said: “We’re looking to turn the traditional filmmaking process on its head by involving the audience from the outset.

"As such we’re looking to enlist the input of cinemagoers to create a film that they are passionately engaged with and we’ll be using workshops to give our contributors the opportunity to learn about the filmmaking process.”

The fundraising campaign, #WeAreTheFilm’, started on Tuesday. It offers a range of 'film-making perks' to those who get involved. Contributions can range from £1 to £2,000.

Dan says that what makes the campaign unique is that contributors have the opportunity to become a virtual film crew, and are invited to a series of industry workshops that will give a unique insight into the filmmaking process and lead to continued involvement in the development of the film from script to screen.

His debut Lad - A Yorkshire Story told the tale of a teenager who comes to terms with his father's death through the kindness and mentoring of a national park ranger. It was partly based on Dan's early life and starred young Rathmell actor Bretten Lord, who was named best child actor at the Hollywood International Family Festival for his performance.

The campaign can be found at kickstarter.com. The deadline is Sunday, December 20.
