POLICE were called to reports of an ostrich loose by the busy A59 road yesterday morning.

Officers were called to Fewston - between Skipton and Harrogate - to reports of a loose bird by the roadside at about 9.15am.

Traffic Constable David Minto travelled to the scene, and found the bird shortly after.

Police later said they had been told the bird was an emu and they had managed to find its owner, who had gone to the scene and used food to lure it into a horsebox so it could be transported back to her property.
