A SKIPTON man has written a book about "growing up and growing older with cricket" to raise money for charity.

Tim Quelch, of Bay Horse Court, has penned Stumps & Runs & Rock 'n' Roll – his fifth sports book – which he says have been well received.

Released by Pitch Publishing, it covers Mr Quelch's 60-year account of growing up and growing older with cricket, spanning the period between Queen Elizabeth's accession to the throne in 1952 and 2012.

His story talks about scandals and trends, unforgettable events and heroes that come and go in English cricket.

The book features stories of famous and not-so-famous cricketers seen in action throughout Mr Quelch's life, including Freddie Trueman, Ted Dexter, Wes Hall, Derek Underwood, Alan Knott, John Snow, Geoffrey Boycott, Bob Willis, Michael Vaughan and Jimmy Anderson.

Mr Quelch is no stranger to writing books about cricket, as his previous offering, Bent Arms & Dodgy Wickets, was about English Test cricket during the 1950s.

"Having retired from local government in 2010, I write now in order to raise funds for important charities such as Alzheimer's Society, Parkinson's UK and Cancer Research UK, donating all of my proceeds to these causes," said Mr Quelch. "This latest book is raising funds for Cancer Research UK."

Stumps & Runs & Rock 'n' Roll is available at WH Smith's, Waterstones and Amazon, priced £17.99.
